Today, indicted former House Majority Leader Tom Delay comes to Pennsylvania's 10th congressional district in an effort to shore up support for his new cause—Coalition for a Conservative Majority. Like the Club for Growth, the Coalition for a Conservative Majority seeks to raise money for candidates—like Chris Hackett—and run negative and misleading ads in our district.
"Fresh from the brutally negative primary, Hackett is now bringing the worst kind of Washington values to Pennsylvania in the form of Tom DeLay. People don't want that anymore. Why is Chris Hackett embracing one of the most corrupt and dishonest politicians in decades? It's the old kind of politics that has no place in Pennsylvania's 10th district. People want a change from that type of cronyism." said Vincent Rongione, Campaign Manager for Carney for Congress.
In 2005, DeLay and Associates were indicted on money laundering charges and conspiracy to commit money laundering in order to circumvent Texas's ban on using corporate money to fund political campaigns. DeLay's TRMPAC was ordered to pay $196,000 in damages to Democrats and ARMPAC was ordered to immediately shut down and pay $100,000 for violating campaign finance laws. Rongione continued, "This campaign is about Pennsylvania values—Chris Carney knows that, and he knows that Tom DeLay and his corrupt political tactics are not what Pennsylvania is about. Tom DeLay is not the kind of politician we want representing us in Congress. Chris Hackett is willing to greet Tom DeLay with open arms—does he really think this is what Pennsylvania values are about?"
