70,000 votes for Carney compared to 64,000 in the competitive GOP Primary
Clarks Summit, PA—Results from Tuesday's primary show an overwhelming support for Chris Carney, who received over 70,000 votes. By contrast, the GOP Primary generated 64,000 votes, far lower than Carney's total.
Congressman Chris Carney produced television and radio ads with a message—urging all Pennsylvanians to get out and vote. And they did. "I'm proud of the get out the vote effort in northeast and central Pennsylvania," said Chris Carney. "I am truly humbled and grateful for the continued support of our friends and neighbors in the district and excited that so many people came out to vote. I offer my congratulations to Mr. Hackett and look forward to a campaign that focuses on the issues that really matter to the families of Northeast and Central Pennsylvania."
Already in the primary, Chris Hackett and Dan Meuser have spent millions of their own personal fortune attacking one another in television and radio ads. "My campaign has always been about the people of our district and representing their values in Washington," said Chris Carney. "I came to Congress to fight for the values of our district and I have focused my work on lowering taxes for middle class families, taking better care for our veterans, fighting illegal immigration, and securing our borders."
Both Hackett and Meuser spent over $2 million of their personal fortunes in a negative primary, characterized by attack dog tactics and mudslinging. Republican primary turnout was lower in the 10th district than in any other contested Congressional primary in the state.
"At the end of the day, the people of northeast and central Pennsylvania want a Member of Congress who is representing their interests and their values in Washington. My campaign will reflect the hard work we've done this term—working to protect families and bringing back jobs and economic development to our region," said Carney.
